Grand Manan Island
A visit to Grand Manan will involve some time since a ferry trip is involved, but the island really is a jewel of the Bay of Fundy. It offers an authentic coastal environment and natural beauty.
To get to the ferry terminal you take Exit 60 from NB Highway 1 near Black's Harbour. Information on ferry crossings and services can be found at this Coastal Transport link.
Grand Manan is one of the best places to do whale watching (as well as porpoises and a rich variety of seabirds) and you may even see some on the ferry ride over. Several operators give wildlife watching excursions, and there is a guided sea kayaking program on the island.
Grand Manan Tourism provides everything you need to know in terms of how to get to the island, what to see, and options for dining and accommodation.
The Anchorage Provincial Park offers trails, day use, camping, and an array of programs and special days.
Grand Manan Island is a great place for bird watchers, with many migratory paths passing through the island. Since 1931 the Grand Manan Migratory Bird Sanctuary has provided protection to numerous species.
